FLY FISHING FOR PIKE
Fly fishing for pike is on its way to being a popular form of pike fishing, not just in the UK but all over the world. There are many people who are for and just as many against this style of pike fishing. Some say that you can not bring the pike in fast enough so it fights to hard and to long and this puts to much stress on it. But those how do fly fish say the tackle they use is up to the job and dose not do any more harm than any other method of pike fishing.
This style of pike fishing has come a long way
and has purpose built fly rods and reels and even lines
that can stand up to the job. There are poppers and sliders and fish look-alike
flies that you can get from tackle shops. If there is fly fishing equipment that can stand
up to Blue Marlin then I am shore it can stand up to pike fishing.
If anyone has seen the way a pike take a surface
lure with a explosion of power. You know how it goes, you are reeling in a lure
and you know it could be taken at any moment and then BANG!!!!!!
the pike strikes and your hart jumps out of your chest, out of shear excitement.
There is
nothing like it. Then you can see why people want to do it.
I feel that if there is no more harm to the pike and it brings more Fly fishermen to pike fishing. That will lead to more understanding and less culling and more protecting of pike in trout farms and lakes. This can only be a good thing. This is Derrick's site on pike fly fishing. and will give you a lot more info than I can.
